Top 10 Training basics.

  1. Wear gloves - they are helmets for your hands.
  2. Take water with you.
  3. Carry equipment to fix a flat tire. (Pump, tube, patch kit and tire levers).
  4. Wear sunglasses that allow good vision.
  5. Grab a waterproof sunscreen and be sure to remember the backs of your legs – sunlight reflecting off the ground can lead to a nasty burn.
  6. Make sure your tires are pumped up before each ride.
  7. Carry some cash, ID, cell phone and emergency contact info.
  8. As the weather heats up, move the bag off your back and use a basket or rear panniers. Your back and shoulders will be happy to feel the breeze.
  9. If Riding for more than an hour, take food with you.
  10. Wear a helmet and replace it every 2-3 years.
