Have you felt it yet? That slight crisp in the air, signifying a shift in the seasons? Before you know it leaves will be changing colors and the temps will be dropping. Make sure you're ready to cycle through one of the prettiest seasons of the year by dressing yourself, and your bike.
First, dress yourself. In the fall, a lightweight, wind-resistant shell is usually enough as an outer layer to cut the chill. Another option is a vest, which warms your core while giving your arms free movement. To prevent numb foreheads and ears, try wearing a thin synthetic headband or a skullcap. One of your best bets for variable temps are Arm and leg warmers that can be put on at the start of the ride, and peeled off midway through without stopping. Finally, keep your hands warm and with full fingered gloves.
Secondly, dress your bike. Make sure you have a front fender on your bike for fall riding. Without one, water from your front wheel is driven into your bicycle's drivetrain, causing premature wear throughout the whole system. You'll also want to add a white light on the front of your bike and a red one in the rear for increased visibility during darker days. |
