Simply put, 650b is a new wheel/tire size that fits between the long-standard 26" MTB wheel and the decade old 29" (known as 29er). The 650b size climbs better and rolls faster than 26" AND is more maneuverable and faster accelerating than a 29er.

There are a growing number of bikes offering this size of wheel this year and it's popularity is growing faster than the 29er did when it was new.
